REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY

Whether you need relief from chronic pain and muscle tension, help recovering from an injury, or just want to enjoy a relaxing, therapeutic massage can enhance your physical and emotional well being.  and improve your performance and quality of life.
Massage therapy is a hands-on treatment that passively loosens and stretches tense or injured muscles, ligaments, and tendons.  By improving circulation, massage therapy clears lactic acid and other waste, increases flexibility and mobility, and reduces pain and stiffness in muscles and joints.
Young or old, healthy or sick, everyone can benefit from massage.  Some see the immense benefits of giving themselves a hour of "me time".  Athletes use massage for its preventative effects both before and after training or competition.  Others use massage to aid in recovery from illness, injury, or stress.

Embrace and love your body, its the most important thing you will ever own.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT

Your appointment will begin with a brief review of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle, followed by a consultation where together, we will develop a plan of treatment that is best for you.  If this is your first appointment, please arrive 10-15 minutes early so that we can spend as much time on the actual treatment as possible.

After the initial consultation, your therapist will leave the room to wash their hands, and allow you privacy while you undress.  The type of massage we do works best when applied directly to the skin of the areas being treated.  However if for any reason you are uncomfortable with disrobing, then let the therapist know and she can provide treatments through your clothing.
After you are undressed, you can lie down on your stomach on the massage table and cover yourself with a clean cotton sheet and blanket while you wait for the massage therapist to return.  Before re-entering she will knock on the door to make sure you are ready.

Before the therapist begins, she will adjust the face rest, any pillows or blankets to ensure you are comfortable and properly positioned.  The RMT will also adjust blankets if you are too warm or too cold.  Many clients enjoy listening to music during their treatment, while others prefer silence, again the choice is yours, just let your therapist know.

When you are ready the therapist will uncover the part of your body to receive the massage, one area at a time, and will apply a light lotion or oil to reduce friction on the skin.  It is important to verbalize with the therapist if you would prefer more or less pressure.  The choice is always yours.  The RMT will continue in this way, uncovering one body part at a time until the session is over.  Massage therapy appointments are usually 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes in length, and you will choose the length of your treatment when booking your appointment.

When the session is complete, your RMT will leave the room so you can get dressed.  Please feel free to take your time as you get up, if you sit or stand up to quickly you may feel lightheaded or dizzy.  Most feel calm and relaxed after a massage treatment.  Some experience mild aching in their muscles hours after their massage.  This is normal and should subside.  At this time the therapist may provide you with  remedial exercises and hydrotherapy applications to help aid in your rehabilitation.

Further massage treatments are generally required for many conditions, a recommended course of treatment varies from one client to another.  The therapist will let you know at the end of your treatment when they feel you should reschedule for optimum health benefits.  For general health and maintenance, many people choose to schedule regular monthly appointments.
